I was coming out of a stop sign (a right turn to a red light) I had been waiting at the stop sign for about 15 seconds, and the light had been green that whole time. I knew there wasn't much time until it turned yellow or red so I sped up to 25MPH.. it turns yellow with 150 or so meters left, so I speed up to around 32.5 MPH (Didn't require much effort because I was going down hill with 5 - 15 mph wind pushing me)... it turns red with about 50 or so meters left. Knowing that if I tried to stop safely I would would end somewhere in the middle of the intersection-- and if I stopped before I went through the light (I was on the hoods and I am 14 so... smaller hands-- harder to brake fast on the hoods) I would probably lose traction/flip.. etc. I weighed the options rather swiftly and it was clear that I should run it-- far safer than trying to stop on a somewhat bumpy hill with the possibility of gravel or other debris knowing that at 30MPH+ I would get through the light before the other light turned green and the cars accelerated.
So I looked back after the I was through the light to make sure that there was no silly people who turned right who wanted to kill me for running the light and possibly making them wait for a fraction of a second (literally) what I saw really surprised me-- a police cars' lights-- so I turn right into the gas station. Once I was there and the police officer was out of his car he confronts me with "What were you thinking?" I say "I didn't think that it was safe to stop..." he stops me in mid sentence "You had plenty of time to stop! You can't just blow through red lights like that... especially this one." I say "Ok" and he says again "You had plenty of time to stop.." I say "Ehhhh, I guess... I don't know.."(Knowing that he probably isn't a cyclist and will just get angry if I disagree with his statement) Then he asks for my name, date of birth and address. After that he said I could leave-- that's the last I have heard of him so far. This happened an hour and a half ago at most. I might update this if I hear from them again... doubt he will do anything. He seemed more concerned that I would get hurt more than anything else.
