PARIS (AFP) — Frenchman Eric Barone established a new world record bike speed Saturday on a track at the Vars ski resort.
In the Hautes-Alpes, between Gap, France and the Italian border, Barone rode a speed of 223.3kph (138.752mph) on a steep, snow-packed slope.
Barone, 55, has set the world record on multiple occasions, on both snow and gravel surfaces. He rode a special downhill mountain bike with a fairing to improve aerodynamics.
