Scott has released the newest edition of its Foil aero road bike, which has been around since 2010. The new bike has a striking aesthetic, with the head tube cleanly integrated with fork and stem. Scott says its analysis shows that the front area of the frame is responsible for up to 50 percent of total drag at low yaw angles.
According to Scott’s testing, the new Foil saves six watts on average over the tested yaw spectrum, compared to its predecessor.
The new Foil frame will weigh in at 945 grams and the fork will weigh 335 grams. Scott Bicycles claims that “the new Foil is one of the lightest aero bikes on the market.”
Scott also says its updated Foil is more comfortable, to the tune of an 89 percent increase in vertical compliance.
The new model also has direct-mount brakes, which often offer more stopping power. The rear brake has moved to the underside of the chain stays, leaving the seat stay/seat tube junction clean to also improve aerodynamics.
Scott also keeps the bike clutter-free with a Di2 battery inside the seatpost, internal cabling and a stem/bar unit that offers integrated Garmin and Di2 junction box mounts.
The new Scott Foil will be ridden by riders from IAM Cycling and Orica-GreenEdge during the Tour de France, which begins this Saturday. According to Scott, its riders have won 115 WorldTour victories, 16 grand tour stages, and three classics aboard the Foil. We’ll see if they can add to the total in July.
