Crash During Tour Of Utar

He must have broken his fingers in an earlier fall because he appeared not to be able to apply his brakes.

Man, no one ever wants to see that happen. That looked rough.

At least he chose a Porsche service car in the race to slow him down... Probably figured that those 6 pot calipers on the car would stop him faster than cork blocks on carbon rims. Since he used to ride for a bike club in Liverpool, the first thing that came to mind was that some thieving Scouser had nicked his brakes...

Hope the lad gets well soon and gets back on the bike to put in some more ace riding as demonstrated in the Tour. I see he's out of hospital already. I guess not too many nights where the nurses will be washing his blarney stones in bed.

That crash looked very painful.

I don't like seeing the pros crashing. It's their livelihood.

Looked like he was going to eat it on that turn regardless. One of the comments on the YouTube page pretty much nailed it---forgot where he was on the descent, and locked his brakes and lost control when he woke up. :o

I guess that could go for any professional athlete, really.

It is very horrible video which is about cycle crashing. Some times you need to be careful while riding so you can avoid injuries.

That's a really tough crash and it's true he failed to brake, so eventually some problems in his hand or in the breaks. Really nasty crash! 🙁

Oh he braked. Just way too late. Watch the vid just before he hits the car----you can see that he locked up and the rear is sliding out.

Hitting the car saved him from going over whatever's on the other side of the turn.

I really don't get how a professional can brake that late, was he distracted? Either cases it's hard to realize if he was better off crashing against the car or going off road, it's hard to predict.

Kinda depends on what's across the road---on a descent like that, might be a bit of a way to the bottom. He could have been daydreaming---more likely he forgot where he was on the course and what was coming up, and realized it too late.

Yeah, most likely he was, but that is vert strange to happen at a professional level - was he thinking about dinner in a descent like that? Like you say, we never know what's on the other side of the road though.

Could he have avoided that? He was lucky to have survived. What can we do to avoid such accidents? I think that we must be very keen while riding on high speeds. I believe that cyclists can ride safely and avoid accidents.

What a terrible accident! Wish both speedy recovery. Be careful, guys.

lol, come on artyson, be careful guys? 😄 It was a terrible accident indeed and the fact that was caught on camera make us realize the speeds they cycle in are tremendous!
