UCI statement The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) confirms that pursuant to the UCI's Regulations on technological fraud a bike has been detained for further investigation following checks at the Women's Under 23 race of the 2016 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships. This does not concern any of the riders on the podium.
Belgian Cycling Federation commented on the case of mechanical fraud The UCI has detected technological fraud and we can confirm that this is the bike of Femke Van den Driessche. The UCI will give more details later"

According to UCI rules, technological fraud is punishable by disqualification, a suspension at least six months, and a fine of up to 200,000 Swiss francs. A team found guilty of mechanical fraud also could face a suspension and a fine as large as one million francs.
It looks like there are websites that already sell hidden booster motor race bikes. Here's a link to a Dutch website that sells Wilier cross bikes with a hidden seatpost motor with helical gear drive to the crankset spindle through an over-running clutch.
La Gazetta has an article today stating the new drive system used by the Belgian girl is some sort of motor that uses the rear wheel as the rotor...maybe field magnets or winding inside the chainstays or inside the searpost or inside the seatstays?. The mostly factless article shows a carbon wheel with wire windings inside it...good for 20 to 60 Watts. Maybe.
The excuses after getting caught are getting lamer all the time. Considering that you spend a certain amount of time each lap carrying your bike in 'cross, it's hard to see how she wouldn't have noticed extra weight. Plus, her crushing those climbs while the rest looked like they were stuck in the mud........hmmmmm. 😉
