Middleton Rd is probably the go. I've never ridden out that way in Wellington but there is a bike path next to the motorway from Johnsonville down to the harbour at Nauranga.
This site has a heap of routes all laid out. http://wellingtoncyclingatlas.org/
I would leave the fixie behind. There are quite steep hills round Wellington

First off thank you for your local perspective response! Oh yeah, bringing. ANY bike is cost prohibitive hence my girlfriend and my decision to purchase a rig for not too much more than transporting one.
Afa hills I live in Pittsburgh, PA here in the US. One of the steepest streets in the world Canton Ave. is located here. A 38% gradient. :-o. Each year on the last Saturday there is a race/ride called the Dirty Dozen found here:
www.dannychew.com 13 hills in 55 miles the least of which is 22% grade. So, yeah the fixed stays home. lolThank you for the links as well. Very kind of you to include them. Looking forward to excursions of all types.
Once again thank you for your response!
