I've been using starva for about a year, but only pay attention to a few segments(pay attention=actively try to best) . If a segment is on one of my training routes or in close proximity to where I live, its fun to best my old times. The other 95% of segments I pass, its good to see my times go up and I do use them as some sort of gauge. At the same time, I don't know when any of these are coming up.
One thing about segments is, they are often not a good indicator of how a ride went. Ive had times when I rode with fast groups and achieved 20+ pr's. Other times, I've passed segments at dead last when at my limits during an end of my ride. One thing I can never see myself getting into is downhill segments:eek:. I am astonished at how fas people do on these, no thanks.....lol... The option to let starve tell you the start and stop of a segment is a little distracting especially during a group ride.Pushing your way to the front because your phone talked is poor etiquette in my book😉.
They do have their uses and can be fun if you don't overdo it. Its always cool to meet other riders who've been passing the same routes as you. I met a cyclist who's one of the top riders in my area, he's a very good all around rider(he's on a team) and will ensure that KOM's will be a rare occurrence for that 5% I do try for😉. I think a cool thing about starva is, its a journal of where you have ridden and putting titles on rides can be helpful.
What do you like/dislike about starva? Do you like the KOM feature?
