  1. Hi all- I'm looking at buying my first bike in many many years. This will be my use:
    1. Bike around with my son on pavements and parks.
    2. Occasional trail

    Based on my research so far, looks like I must get a hybrid.I'm looking at a budget of around $500.
    What should I be looking for in the bike? How many gears? Brands?

    Go to a local bike shop to gauge the cost and type of bike that will suit your needs. I think most people won't know what they want unless they experience it first hand. I was planning on getting a mountain bike after enjoying road biking so much this past year. I sat on a mountain bike my brother owns and new very quickly its not for me(at least for right now). 500 should be more than enough, just see whats out there in person.

  3. For $500 you can get a good hibreed bike, some cost around $300-$400.
