yup, its fine exept in some places in edinburgh they have PUT LEGAL PARKING SPACES IN THE BIKE LANES!!!!

you go along, then see the car sitting there think, not another idiot then you see the space marked out fainty in red and get realy angry,

to be fair cycling in edinburgh is excellent, almost all drivers are condiderate, and ones ive had near misses with stoped to check i was ok...🙂

Which brings me to a comment about the only city I really know any more, Edinburgh: what the *hell*
is the point of having 'greenways' and 'cycle lanes' if people are allowed to park in them?

You could solve Edinburgh's traffic problems at a stroke by simply banning all on-street parking
within the city limits (and towing away offending vehicles, of course).

In the case of greenways it is a question of balancing the competing needs. If parking was banned
all together then people would drive to large shops with car parks. The council, quite rightly,
wants to keep the small shops as part of the urban villages programme and so wishes to allow some to
drive to them.

Similarly I am baffled by a number of cycle lanes in my area with yellow lines in them. These are
manadatory cycle lanes with no plates giving times of operation so parking should be prohibited at
all times. However, the yellow lines restrict parking at certain times of the day only.

Does the cycle lane override the yellow line so that parking is always illegal?

Does the yellow line override the cycle lane so that motorists can park in it when the yellow
line is not in force? And if so, does the cycle lane cease to be in force entirely when parking
is allowed?
