Why is it that every time I bring up the topic of gearing for steep gravel climbs, I get bombarded with condescending remarks and assumptions about my cycling abilities? Its not like Im asking how to win the Tour de France, Im just trying to figure out how to make my bike more manageable for those grueling, uphill battles.
Is it too much to ask for some constructive advice without the holier-than-thou attitude? Im sick of hearing things like you should just get stronger or maybe you should try a different hobby. Seriously, what kind of response is that?
So, heres my question: whats the ideal gearing setup for steep gravel climbs? Im looking for practical suggestions, not judgment. Is a compact crankset and wide-range cassette the way to go? Or should I consider a triple crankset? And for those of you who will inevitably suggest I just get stronger, what kind of training or exercises would you recommend to build up my climbing abilities?
But, you know, no pressure. If youd rather just continue being smug and dismissive, thats fine too. Im sure there are plenty of other forums where I can find the help I need.
