I am planning a SWB with USS and I've run into a little problem with the steering linkages. Rod link has promise, but only with bellcranks, which would add the possibility of too much slack. Has anyone thoughts of how to design cable linkage for USS?

absolutely nothing wrong with the idea, and it can be quite reliable (planes and boats are often
steered with cables, why not a bike?).Someone did raise the point that there was likely to be consumer resistance to cable steering, as it
can look sort of makeshift.Anyway, from my experience with the cable steering on my boat, I can suggest that you will of course

[without having seen any other type of cable steering to go on, which might be a good idea] the main
different between cable and a solid rod construction is that the cable has to pull on both sides of
the steering mechanism and thus form a kind of loop. My idea was to have the cable stretch around 4
wheels of exactly the same size [say about 3" in diameter and with deep groves in them] with two
attached to a plate on the front fork and the other 2 attached to a plate attached to the steering
tube. Obviously the cable will have some kind tensioning 'thingie' at one end and will be prevented
from slipping when the steering is turned. The idea is that the cable bends around each wheel as the
steering is turned, thus mitigating any kind of fatigue in the bend. I'd also include a very basic
secondary 'backup' cable just in case the worse case scenario came a reality!! Pictures are better
than words in this instance, but hopefully you get my drift!!I'm looking forward to trying it out....eventually, when I get this thing built!

do a web search on infinity recumbents, that's the style they use. I had one for a couple of years

Steve Delaire used such a setup on his Super 7 LWB racer. The pullies must be large to ensure cable
reliability. It's best to place a heavy spring on the cable to take up any slack.Regards,

A friend of mine has built an USS delta trike cable steered. The system done ok, but the cable pair
must be set up with a pair of left/right threaded tensioners.[]'s Eduardo
