Whats the best way to remove old chain lube and grime without turning your chain into a fragile, rust-prone mess? Every expert says to use some magical concoction of solvents and elbow grease, but Ive yet to find a method that doesnt leave my chain looking like its been through a war.
Is it really necessary to strip the chain down to bare metal, or can you get away with just cleaning off the excess gunk? And whats the deal with all the different types of chain cleaners on the market? Are they just a bunch of overpriced snake oil, or is there some actual science behind them?
And dont even get me started on the whole clean the chain in an ultrasonic cleaner thing. Is that just a bunch of hooey, or is it actually a viable method? Has anyone out there actually tried it, or is it just some internet myth perpetuated by people who think theyre smarter than everyone else?
