Are we all just pretending that heavy bike center stands are somehow better simply because theyre more expensive and look more substantial? I mean, whats the real advantage of lugging around a chunk of metal thats only purpose is to hold your bike upright? Is it just a status symbol at this point?
Ive seen people swear by their heavy-duty center stands, claiming theyre more stable and secure, but are they really? Or are we just falling victim to the old bigger is better mentality? Ive used lightweight center stands for years and never had an issue, but Ive also seen people struggle to maneuver their heavy stands in tight spaces or store them in their garages.
And lets not forget about the portability factor - who wants to haul around a 20-pound stand when you can have a 5-pound one that does the same job? It seems to me that the only real advantage of heavy center stands is that theyre more impressive to look at, but is that really worth the extra weight and hassle?
So, I have to ask: what are the real, tangible benefits of using a heavy bike center stand over a lightweight one? Is it just a matter of personal preference, or are there some actual advantages that Im missing?
