I get coupons for these all the time, these Morningstar frozen products, which are available in most
of the mainstream supermarkets on the East Coast (at least). It had been a while so I checked them
out today. There are quite a few. You got your pseudo chicken patties, and then your pseudo salsa
burgers, and then your pseudo beef crumbles and then your pseudo psausauge links and pso on. 😉
But the irritating thing is that almost every single one of these products has egg whites in it. I
think the eggs are used as a bonding agent. So a vegan can't eat these. I am not a strict vegan but
I don't eat eggs. So it bugs me when some company sneaks them into some product where you don't
really expect to find them.
On the other side of the coin (or supermarket aisle as the case may be) you have the Boca line of
fake meat items. Typically Boca uses *cheese* as the bonding agent. To me that is better than egg
whites, but I wish these companies that make these products would just take all the animal stuff
out of them.
This is just a tip-off to those of you who unsuspectingly might buy Morningstar products,
considering them to be vegan. They ain't!
PS: stay away from 8th Continent milk substitute. I don't even think that is vegetarian!
