Whats the point of all these fancy interval workouts and zone training plans for road racing and fondo prep? Are they just a bunch of overhyped nonsense designed to sell training software and coaching services, or do they actually deliver results?
It seems like every coach and self-proclaimed expert is pushing their own brand of interval training, but when you look at the actual data, its hard to see any real-world benefits. Meanwhile, guys who just go out and ride a lot seem to be just as fast, if not faster, than those who are meticulously following some structured training plan.
And dont even get me started on the whole periodization thing. Is it really necessary to break your training down into specific blocks and phases, or is that just a way to make training sound more complicated than it needs to be? I mean, if youre just going to end up doing a bunch of random intervals and hill repeats anyway, why bother with all the fuss and planning?
And what about the whole polarized training trend? Is it really better to focus on doing a few really hard workouts and then just cruising the rest of the time, or is that just a recipe for burnout and stagnation? And whats the deal with all these recovery rides? Are they really necessary, or are they just an excuse for people to take it easy and not actually train?
Im not buying all the hype around these fancy training methods, and I think its time someone called out the emperors new clothes. So, whats the real story here? Are these training methods actually effective, or are they just a bunch of overcomplicated nonsense?
