Who do you think will be the most tactically astute rider in this years Spring Classics among the increasingly homogenous crop of riders that merely follow the traditional scripts and team instructions rather than exhibiting genuine finesse and creative bike handling, or will it once again be an utterly unremarkable winner who got lucky with a favorable wind direction and a compliant peloton?
Given the conditions of the Classics, coupled with the modern dependence on data-driven tactics, Im struggling to envision anyone truly standing out as tactically astute, or will they just be playing their assigned roles in an all-too-predictable dance. Can anyone realistically name a rider who has ever drastically altered their course through intelligent and adaptive decision-making on the fly?
