Were constantly being told that endurance training is the key to unlocking anaerobic potential, but is this just a myth perpetuated by coaches and pundits who dont actually understand the science behind it? Or is there real-world evidence to support the claim that Zone 2 work can significantly improve anaerobic capacity?
Im not talking about some vague, anecdotal nonsense about how Pogačars base fitness allows him to ride at a higher intensity. I want to know about the actual physiological changes that occur in the body as a result of prolonged Zone 2 training. What happens to the mitochondria, the capillaries, the muscles themselves? How do these changes actually translate to improved anaerobic performance?
And lets not forget that Pogačar is an outlier, even among professional cyclists. Hes got a VO2 max thats off the charts, and a natural talent for endurance activities that most of us can only dream of. So is it really fair to say that his training methods are directly applicable to the rest of us mere mortals?
I want to see some real data, some concrete evidence that supports the idea that Zone 2 work is the key to unlocking anaerobic potential. Because until then, Im calling BS on the whole idea.
