Whats with the obsession among road cyclists about having pristine, smooth roads at all times? Its like theyre unable to handle even the slightest deviation from their predetermined route or road surface. A little gravel or rough pavement and theyre completely thrown off, acting like the world is coming to an end.
Is it really that difficult to adapt to changing road conditions, or are roadies just so used to being coddled and catered to that theyve forgotten how to ride a bike in the real world? Newsflash: roads arent always perfect, and sometimes youre going to encounter some rough stuff. Deal with it.
And dont even get me started on the whole safety argument. If a little gravel or rough pavement is enough to send you tumbling to the ground, then maybe you shouldnt be riding a bike at all. Its not like the road is suddenly going to turn into a minefield or something.
And whats with the constant complaining about road maintenance and the need for smooth roads? Do you think the world revolves around your precious bike ride? There are more important things in life than your ability to ride a bike at 25mph without encountering any bumps.
Its time for roadies to toughen up and learn to ride a bike like a normal human being. If you cant handle a little gravel or rough pavement, then maybe you should stick to the bike path or the spin class at the gym. The rest of us will be out on the real roads, riding our bikes like theyre meant to be ridden.
