What is the best power meter for a mountain bike on a budget?

Ive seen Shimanos FC-R9100-P power meter crankset fail miserably after a season of cross-country riding, and the Stages Cycling power meters arent exactly cheap either.

    For a mountain bike on a budget, are there any power meters that actually live up to their waterproof claims and wont break the bank. Ive heard some good things about the Favero Assioma Duo-Shi or the SRM Origin, but are they worth the investment. Do they really provide accurate and reliable power data in the midst of a wet and muddy trail.

    Is it even possible to get a decent power meter for mountain biking on a budget of around $1,000 or less. Are there any other options that Im missing, or are we just stuck with overpriced and unreliable power meters.
