Can kettlebell training be incorporated into Zone 2 endurance programs

Can kettlebell training be incorporated into Zone 2 endurance programs without compromising the specific cardiovascular adaptations that are the primary focus of this type of training, or is it simply a fad thats being pushed by strength coaches who dont fully understand the nuances of endurance training?

    It seems like every time you turn around, someone is touting the benefits of kettlebells for endurance athletes, but when you dig deeper, its often just a bunch of anecdotal evidence and unproven claims.

    The science is pretty clear that Zone 2 training is all about increasing mitochondrial density, improving muscle buffering capacity, and enhancing cardiovascular function, and its hard to see how kettlebell swings and cleans are going to have a significant impact on any of those adaptations.

    And yet, despite the lack of evidence, it seems like more and more endurance athletes are incorporating kettlebell training into their programs, often at the expense of more traditional forms of strength training that have been proven to be effective.

    So, can someone please explain to me how kettlebell training is supposed to be beneficial for Zone 2 endurance athletes, and what specific physiological adaptations its supposed to be inducing?

    Is it just a matter of adding some general strength and power to the equation, or is there something more specific going on that Im not aware of?

    And if its just a matter of adding some general strength and power, then why not just stick with traditional strength training methods that have been proven to be effective, rather than jumping on the latest fad?

    It seems to me that were just seeing a lot of unnecessary complexity being added to endurance training programs, and its not clear to me that any of it is actually leading to better results.
