Can I make a gentle hint that advertising on this newsgroup is a breach of usenet rules. I, for one,
have a policy not to buy from anybody who misuses newsgroups. Although, I think it is a shame how
much the web has become dominated by commercialism, it is the place for your selling techniques to
be tried out.

If you were to engage yourself in the discussions on the newsgroups and provide a link to your
website as part of your signature that would be acceptable to me - if not everyone.

Yeah, come on, give the guy a break. I recently posted a query regarding the Fugawi maps and a
discussion about price (plus other things) ensued. This is the cheapest price so far mentioned and
must surely therefore be of interest to the readership.

Sounds good to me - it's the total lack of website address or other sensible contact information
that puts me off even considering the offer. Come on, what respectable businessman is going to use a

I am just starting out and as a result I do not have a web page or a business email address
set up yet.

And I am not a spammer, never have been and never will be!! I only send out email to people who's
email address I know or if I find it on a web page. And any email with an offer similar to the one
posted here would begin with

" I appologise for the unsolicited email. If you do not want to receive further mail from me, please
let me know and I will not bother you again."

And the offer does still stand if anyone wants it.

1. Set up a website. Use keywords on each page to help people using search engines to find
your site.

2. Trade links with other websites similar or relevant to your own business. The more links you
have from other sites the more interested people will visit your site, and the more easily

3. Join in discussions in relevant newsgroups (like this one) and include a link to your website in
your signature. People who are interested will click on the link. In this way you can advertise

I'm sure there are other methods, but having a website is vitally important. Without a website
you're not likely to get much business on the internet, you'll most likely be treated as a spammer.
The fact is that most people hate spammers, whether you say you are one or not. There's so much spam
on the net these days that people are heartily sick of it, and when people complain you can lose
your ISP account, which is not a good thing if you are a genuine business.

Putting a website together is not particularly difficult. It doesn't have to be a huge flashy
affair, it can be very small and simple. It doesn't have to look especially impressive to do the
job. You don't have to pay a web designer to do it for you, you can easily knock up a simple website
yourself, there are plenty of websites and tools available to help you do this.

Most importantly, you should be aware that when operating a business on the internet you are legally
required to put the address and phone number of your business on your website. This helps to
convince potential customers that you are a real business.

If your business is genuine then I wish you luck with it.

If we are referring to e-mail rather than newsgroup postings, then it is the unsolicited nature that
makes it spam i.e. if you didn't ask for the information, or give permission for your email address
to be held on a database for receipt of unsolicited emails, you are being spammed.
