Is the notion of replacing inner and outer cables at the same time an outdated practice perpetuated by the cycling industry to drive sales, or is there actually a tangible benefit to doing so.
Isnt it possible that the outer cable is still in good condition and only the inner cable needs to be replaced, thus reducing waste and saving money.
Cant we just inspect the outer cable for any signs of damage or wear, and if it looks fine, just replace the inner cable.
Are there any studies or data that support the claim that replacing both cables at the same time improves shifting performance or reduces maintenance in the long run.
Or is this just a blanket statement that has been passed down through the years without any real evidence to back it up.
Is it time to challenge this conventional wisdom and start thinking outside the box when it comes to cable replacement.
