Can someone please explain to me why the traditional pace yourself, dont blow a gasket on the first climb approach is still widely accepted when its been shown that a more aggressive, variable pace can actually lead to more efficient climbing overall. Is it because were all just too scared to blow a gasket and walk the rest of the way, or is there actual science backing up the start slow, finish slow method. I mean, whats the worst that could happen if we all just decided to go balls-to-the-wall on the first climb and see who makes it to the top without needing an oxygen tank. Are there any actual studies or data to support the traditional pacing strategy, or are we just all stuck in some sort of cycling dogma.
