Whats the point of meticulously timing your biggest meal around your longest Zone 2 rides, are you all just trying to squeeze out every last bit of marginal gain or is there actual science backing this up? Do you really think a meal 2 hours before a ride is going to make a significant difference in your performance, or is this just another excuse to stuff your face with pasta and call it a strategic carb load?
Ive seen some of you roadies obsessing over this, claiming its the key to unlocking your full potential, but Im not buying it. Is this just a bunch of pseudo-scientific nonsense or can someone actually explain to me how this works? Whats the optimal timing for a meal before a Zone 2 ride, and whats the actual benefit of doing so?
And dont even get me started on the whole digestion argument, thats just a cop-out for not being able to handle a little discomfort during a ride. If youre really that sensitive to food, maybe you should be sticking to the stationary bike at the gym.
So, come on, all you experts out there, enlighten me. Whats the deal with meal timing and Zone 2 rides? Is this a game-changer or just another myth perpetuated by the cycling community?
