Are disc brakes on a gravel bike truly worth the added weight and complexity when the majority of gravel events dont have the same technical descents as mountain biking and most riders arent exactly skilled enough to take full advantage of their supposed benefits, and isnt it just a marketing gimmick to sell more expensive bikes to people who think they need the latest technology just to ride on a little bit of dirt and pavement.
Does the industrys emphasis on disc brakes distract from more practical upgrades like better tire clearance or more efficient drivetrains that could actually make a difference in a riders performance and comfort on mixed terrain, or are we just too caught up in our own hype about the latest and greatest technology to actually think critically about what were putting on our bikes.
And while were on the subject, why do so many gravel bikes have ridiculously high tire pressures when the whole point of a gravel bike is supposed to be that you can ride on a variety of surfaces, including dirt and gravel, where high pressure tires just dont make sense.
