Whats your favorite type of cycling terrain and why do so many of you seem to be obsessed with the idea that theres only one right way to ride? Is it really that hard to accept that some people prefer the smooth, predictable surface of a paved road, while others get a kick out of bouncing around on a mountain bike trail?
Its like every time this topic comes up, someone inevitably chimes in with a holier-than-thou lecture about how real cyclists only ride on dirt, or how anyone who prefers paved roads is somehow less of a cyclist. Newsflash: theres no one-size-fits-all answer here. Different people have different preferences, and thats okay.
So, instead of trying to convince everyone that your way is the best way, why not just tell us what you like and why? Do you prefer the thrill of navigating technical singletrack, or the speed and efficiency of a well-maintained road bike? Do you like the scenery and solitude of a quiet country road, or the social aspect of riding with a group on a busy bike path?
And while youre at it, can we please dispense with the tired cliches about how certain types of terrain are inherently better or worse than others? I mean, come on, folks - were all just trying to have fun on two wheels here. Cant we just agree to disagree and focus on what really matters: the ride itself?
Oh, and one more thing: if youre one of those people whos going to respond with some variation of I only ride on [insert type of terrain here] because its the only way to get a real workout, please, for the love of all things cycling, spare us the drama. Weve all heard that one before, and its getting old.
