Does the eBike offer any additional power-saving modes to extend battery life?

Whats the point of even calling it an eBike if its just going to die on you after a few miles, cant the manufacturers get it together and include some decent power-saving modes to extend battery life, or are they just too lazy to care, do the newer models have any features like regenerative braking or low-power modes that can actually make a difference, or are they just rehashing the same old tech and expecting us to be impressed, and whats with all the hype about range and efficiency if its not even going to last a full day, can someone please explain to me why eBikes still cant seem to get this right, and what we can do to make them actually live up to their potential.
