Is it true that many triathletes are essentially just endurance junkies who cant focus on one sport long enough to become truly proficient, and thats why theyre so quick to jump on the cross-training bandwagon, or is there actually some real science behind the benefits of cross-training for triathletes.
It seems like every time you turn around, theres another triathlete touting the benefits of cross-training, but when you ask them to explain what specific benefits theyre getting from it, they cant seem to give you a straight answer. They just spout off a bunch of vague nonsense about well-rounded fitness and injury prevention, but they cant seem to provide any concrete evidence to support their claims.
And dont even get me started on the whole specificity of training debate. If youre a triathlete, shouldnt you be spending most of your time training specifically for the three sports that make up a triathlon, rather than wasting your time with unrelated activities like yoga or Pilates.
Or is cross-training just a way for triathletes to avoid the monotony of their regular training routine. Lets be real, if youre doing the same workouts over and over again, it can get pretty boring. So maybe cross-training is just a way to mix things up and make training more interesting.
But if thats the case, then why do triathletes always seem to be trying to convince everyone else that cross-training is the key to their success. Cant they just admit that theyre doing it because its fun and it keeps their training interesting, rather than trying to make it out to be some kind of magic bullet thats going to give them a competitive edge.
And what about the whole overuse injury thing. Is cross-training really an effective way to prevent overuse injuries, or is it just a myth thats been perpetuated by the triathlon community. It seems like every time a triathlete gets injured, they blame it on overuse and claim that they need to start cross-training in order to prevent it from happening again. But is that really the case, or are they just looking for an excuse to avoid the hard work and dedication thats required to become a truly elite athlete.
It would be great to hear from some experienced triathletes who can shed some light on this topic and provide some insight into the benefits and drawbacks of cross-training.
