Why is it that road cyclists feel the need to constantly show off their tan lines, as if the depth and severity of their farmers tan is somehow directly correlated to their level of fitness or dedication to the sport? Is it some sort of unspoken rule that in order to be considered a real roadie, you have to have a stark white butt and legs that resemble a pair of worn-out saddle bags?
Whats with the obsession with displaying these tan lines on social media, at local bike shops, and even at casual group rides? Do road cyclists genuinely believe that their tan lines are some sort of badge of honor that sets them apart from other types of cyclists, or is it just a desperate cry for attention and validation?
And lets be real, whats the point of having a killer tan line if youre just going to cover it up with a pair of tights or knee warmers the moment the temperature drops below 60 degrees? Is it all just a big show, a facade designed to make other cyclists feel inferior or inadequate?
Can someone explain to me why roadies are so fixated on their tan lines, and why they feel the need to constantly flaunt them to anyone who will look? Is it a cultural thing, a product of the road cycling communitys obsession with appearance and aesthetics? Or is there something deeper at play here, some sort of psychological or sociological factor that drives road cyclists to covet and display their tan lines like theyre some sort of prized possession?
