Whats the point of even calling yourself a cyclist if you cant handle a bit of cold and snow? I mean, seriously, how hard is it to slap on some fenders and lights and hit the roads in zone 2 during winter? And yet, every year its the same complaints about how awful the weather is and how nobody knows how to set up their bikes for winter.
So, for all you self-proclaimed cyclists who cant seem to figure it out, whats the best way to set up your bike for winter riding in zone 2? Dont give me any of that well, it depends nonsense or you should really consider this or that. I want a straight answer, with no exceptions or excuses.
Specifically, I want to know what kind of tires are acceptable, what kind of gearing you should be using, and what kind of brakes are necessary to stop on icy roads. And no, studded tires is not a good enough answer. I want specifics, like what brand and model.
And for the love of all things cycling, dont even think about suggesting that I should just stay indoors and use a trainer. Thats not cycling, thats just pedaling in place while staring at a TV. If you cant handle the cold, then maybe you shouldnt be calling yourself a cyclist.
Oh, and one more thing: if youre going to recommend something, make sure youve actually used it yourself. I dont want to hear from any armchair experts who have never actually ridden in the snow.
