It should be strapped under the saddle, held by an old leather toe strap.
There is a special way to wrap the strap around the rails which somebody would have to show you...

The proper way is to carry them around your neck. The following photograph demonstrates

Toe straps and other binders can cut into the rubber of your tire. Consider putting the folded tire in an old sock and stuff it either in a jersey pocket or a water bottle cage.

There used to be (perhaps still is) a little gadget that bolts across the rear of the saddle rails
(fits a Brooks Pro perfectly) to secure a folded tubular. I came across a NOS example a few years
ago and thought it looked like just the thing for my restored PX10E.It has two rubber bungees attached to a hook with a finger ring that stretches under folded tire and
links to a slot in the mounting bracket. The name on the gadget is MPAR.Anyone know when these were manufactured/available?

The key here is "when racing." When racing, you don't carry anything. Wheels in the follow vehicle
or wheel pit is the answer. When out riding around is another story...

jeverett3<AT>earthlink<DOT>net home.earthlink.net~jeverett3Open ↗Man, I had to really dig to find this photo. The link is to some guy's eBay auction. He says it's Italian but the box says Spain which makes sense. Rivendell used to sell them in their catalogue but not the newer issue. They're probably discontinued.

When racing, your spare tubular and the pump to inflate it should be safely stowed in the trunk
of your car. Don't carry things that could be dislodged and dropped into the field of riders
behind you.

Mounted on a wheel in the support truck or the wheel pit.

Dear Phil and Sheldon,
Half a pennyweight?
This kind of stuff is all right as long as you keep it clean. I may have missed the c's, u's, and
t's in that letter in "Twelfth Night," but we burnt those topless towers in Ilium and won't hesitate
to censor any smutty remarks that we understand.Thomas Bowdler

No it doesn't. I have carried a spare this way for years and have never damaged a tire. I use a

The key here is "when racing." When racing, you don't carry anything. Wheels in the follow vehicle
(snipped)But don't get dropped. That spare wheel won't do you much good if the van with the wheels in it is
in front of you.If the race has major climbs and your support is limited, carry a spare.

No it doesn't. I have carried a spare this way for years and have never damaged a tire. I use a
Campagnolo leather toe strap. No wonder. A Shimano toe strap would have destroyed numerous tires by now. ;-)
Best part, you can rebuild a Campagnolo toe strap. With Shimano you have to buy a new one when your
current toe strap wears out.jeverett3<AT>earthlink<DOT>net home.earthlink.net~jeverett3Open ↗
