  1. It's called a hoac - it isn't. Aspartame can cause dangerous reactions. Some Type 2 may not even be
diabetic. My only symptom is hi blood sugar count..diet sodas & artificial sweeteners containing
Aspartame/Nutrasweet can make you gain weight & mess up your sugar count (it says so in FDA list of
reactions!) Hi - think you should look at URL below. Aspartame was not safe for me the FDA lists 92
reactions + diseases it mimics or worsens

After 2 1/2 months crippled with leg pain/cane/wheel chair & going to femily doctor & chiropractor
(diagnosed arthritis/myalgia/neuropathy)- on a hunch I quit using Equal & drinking diet sodas. Three
weeks later no more pain. Six weeks later - the two yr old burning/tingling arms/hands (Carpal
Tunnel) is gone FDA recognizes 92 reactions to Aspartame.

=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0=A0Take 60 day w/o Aspartame and see if you notice health improvement.

Go to link below, Scroll Down this List, Can you relate to any of these symptoms? Aspartame found in
    sweetener, diet sodas, etc. www.relfe.com/Aspartame_92.html

  2. Interesting post but what would you suggest to use instead of the artificial sweeteners. I like to
use Stevia in cooking but have not used it in drinks etc. Used Splenda there.

  3. After my affliction, I researched sweeteners. None of the other sweeteners had as many
    negative reports.

Response from readers shows these sweeteners appear to be favorites - Splenda, Stevia, & Saccharin

Splenda is made from sugar. The 9.7 oz bag is equivalent to 5 lbs. of sugas and is easily availlable

Stevia is not FDA approved as a sweetener..it IS approved as a supplement. It is a plant extract.
I've noticed it in health food stores & notice Puritans Pride catalog has a listing.

Sacharrin was the earlist artificial sweetener - Rumors abounded about this sweetener causing
cancer. In fact a warning label saying as much was required in 1977; however in Jan 2001 - the label
was repealed when it was proved Saccharin does not cause cancer

  5. Thank you. I just don't like the taste of some of the sweetners.

  6. Stevia is a plant, a small, sparse bush. The sweetness is so much a part of the plant that you can
pull off a leaf and put it in your mouth and it doesn't taste like a leaf, it tastes sweet. The
sweetness is mild and, straight from the plant, is not as sweet as other sources.

We grew Stevia last summer and harvested it from our garden, dried it and use it in teas, primarily.
The leaves are VERY small, so in drying it one can lose a lot of the Stevia to fragmentation unless
steps are taken. We prepare it by steeping it WITH the tea leaves, then using a fine cloth or mesh
filter to filter out as much of the flakes as possible.

I have not used it much, not because of any detractants of the Stevia, but primarily because I am
not an avid tea drinker. My husband is. I prefer coffee, or soda, and generally use fructose in my
coffee. So I cannot, at least at this time, say whether or not it is likely to have an adverse
affect on one's blood sugar or not.

Still, it is easy to grow and I would recommend that anyone considering it as a sugar substitute
should try growing it, drying it, drinking it for a time. If nothing else, growing it will likely
cost much less than buying it commercially, because it is a rather expensive health food substitute
in its extract form. Try it at its mildest and cheapest first.

Why is stevia banned by the European Union, and (I think) Japan too, as dangerous? Why is stevia
*not allowed* to be sold as a sweetener in the US, but only as a "dietary supplement" because it
doesn't have to have FDA approval to be sold in this manner?

Why is Aspartame under none of these restrictions?

If Aspartame is so toxic, and dangerous, why aren't the hospitals filled with those who have become
sick from using it? People should be dropping like flies from drinking Diet Pepsi, Diet Coke, etc.
They aren't because there is nothing wrong with it, other than the tiny percentage that have an
allergic reaction to it. There are many more people who are allergic to peanuts, and/or shellfish,
but I have never heard anyone tell the population not to use them.

If you are going to present information here for people to believe, why don't you try to present
both sides, instead of pushing a dangerous substance on people? The reason I am only presenting one
side, is because you have already presented the other.

    Hi Matt:

From what you have written, that sounds like neuropathy. How are your levels? If they are very
high, if you get tighter control, the numbness and tingling *should* decrease. It did with me,
however, I still have slight numbness in my left hand sometimes. However, always check with your
doctor about how to deal with symptoms of any kind. Good luck.
