I had the same thought. The details are a bit different each time but the fact is that the pressure
to dope (and the cost of getting caught) are both far too high and not a logical answer in site. I
really don't think I can blame any particular entity. I just hope that those who have not yet
crossed the line can at least see that it is not worth it.

Pantani was not my cup of tea, but that does not mean he was not used as a scapegoat in many ways.
He did not know how to handle it. I do believe he was guilty, but that guilt would have been (or
should have been) mitigated somewhat by the scale of abuse that still exists. There is still a
significant incentive for almost all parties concerned to point to Pantani and a few others as if
they are the only abusers. The fact is that at any given race, these guys were beating others that
were also doped.

This description of Pantani ripping the legs off of the rest of the pack only because he was the
lone doper is complete [censored].

as to his drug use, including doing suspension time for possession of a hypo with insulin in it.

Before the cyclist there is the man, and Pantani was a great man whose weakness was to become a

Uh.... last time I checked he was never caught with a hypo in his possession. They found it in the

If you'll note the latest tests they've been running suggests that 1/3rd of the peloton has been
using EPO which is the HARDEST drug to detect by far. Anyone that is likely to use would be
using EPO.

So stick your "majority of the peloton" up your nose.

In order to do that you'll have to remove your head from you ass because Trdina never said
that Marco DESERVED to die. He said that he deserved what he got from cycling and that is
completely true.

It is unfortunate that Marco died. I would have liked to see him stay involved in cycling at some
level. The man could bring on such emotions in people that he probably would have made a great
announcer for races.

But now all is gone. So long Marco.

But as Trdina said, think long and hard about doping because it has long lasting effects on you both
physically and psychologically.
