    Give it to the cat

My cats won't even eat canned salmon - they prefer chunk light tuna; no oil.

    kili

Both of my cats would kill for a can of either salmon or tuna. They don't get either very often,
though, and then only as a treat. Fish is not really all that good for cats despite their
    affinity for it.

Canned human fish is downright dangerous for cats. Should only be given as a special treat as you
said. The fish varieties of even canned cat food my vet said are very responsible for them
developing kidney failure down the road. I would use any other flavor.

That's what I made today...but with lots of garlic, salmon, a leek that was left over from earlier
in the week, carrots, celery, potatoes, milk, salt, pepper, bay leaves, a dab of butter...added a
handful of kale at the end because I had a little left in the fridge that I needed to use up.

Served with fresh, hot buttermilk bread...a scoop of dried blueberries for dessert. It was great.

We do for the most part. Our cats get a variety of canned non-fish foods most of the time. They each
get a very small can of salmon or tuna no more frequently than once or twice a month.

    kilikini

Yes... When the "sliced/chunked/shredded stuff" first hit the market, our cats seemed to be wild
about it in almost any variety. Gradually they began eating less and less of it until they simply
wouldn't eat it at all. They still eat a wide variety of flavors, but it all must be the ground or
"paste" texture. They do, however, still seem to enjoy their dry food that's always available.

I always find it humerous when, on occasion, the vet recommends any type of "science diet" food and
states that it's best to stick with just one flavor. Hell, both my cats would have died from
    starvation by now.

Science Diet is nortorious for being unpalatable. I know hundreds of cats that won't eat the stuff.

What brands are you feeding? My cats eat the ground stuff if I mush it up, but also like certain
types of the chopped. For most of the chopped varieties in juice - they lick off the juice and leave
    the chunks.

    Weird animals...

In general, the better quality foods (Iams, Eukanuba, Nutro, Innova, Cal Natural, etc.) are more
palatable - and the cats need to eat less because they are more filling - they contain more meat
protein, higher-quality cuts of meat and less fillers.

  13. Ok anyone have a recipe for the creamed salmon?

I usually make salmon cakes with the canned stuff, served with home made potato pancakes, and a side
of cucumbers and onions in sour cream laced with fresh dill and a splash of rice viengar and lots of
    fresh black pepper.

Make a white sauce. Medium thickness or a little thinner. Stir in the can of drained salmon and some
peas. Heat through. Serve over biscuits, toast points, or mashed potatoes. Cheap supper.
