Single speed/track rings on double/triple cranks

  1. Deraileur rings have smaller teeth to ease the egress of the chain from the ring it's on at shifting commencement.

    Might a tall toothed singlespeed ring be used effectively as a small ring on double/triple cranks since the chain is lifted off the tooth or is the lift angle too shallow to avert being blocked by the tall tooth? I assume downshifts to the small ring would work better since the taller sharper teeth would more easily catch the chain.

    With singlespeed/track bike the big rings I assume upshifts would be slightly improved due the tall teeth catching the chain but downshifts would be much worse.

    I'm assuming a middle triple with tall teeth would shift terribly.

    If anyone has ever tried tall tooth chainrings on plural ring cranks, I'd be interested in hearing their failures or successes.
