This is probably a bad thing to do but I've been doing a bit
of research and believe myself to have an overactive Thyroid
but wanted to get other people's view first to see what they
make of it.
I'm a 22 year old male living in the UK and am currently
suffering with a few problems. I used to be quite overweight
for my height around 14-15 stone (196 - 210lbs), a few years
ago but I'm now around 12 stone (168 lbs) and have achieved
this weight loss through exercise without really
compromising on what I was eating.
1) My resting heart beat / pulse rate varies depending on
when I take it from around 80 at its lowest to anything
around 96 beats per minute. At an average I'd say it
usually hovers around 90, which considering my weight
and the fact I try and exercise most days sounds
excessively high.
2) I have a very healthy appetite and often find myself
feeling hungry. I find that if I do eat a lot of fatty,
unhealthy foods then I will put on weight but, however by
doing situps each night this seems to at least hold the
weight gain at bay. I have to do a fair amount of situps
mind you, over 200 each night, but I'm not on a diet or
anything and do eat quite a lot. This is unusual in that
I thought overactive thyroid meant you didnt put on
weight despite what you ate, however I have to exercise
to prevent weight gain.
3) The most noticeable and awkward problem I seem to have is
heat intolerance and sweating. A small amount of physical
activity in any kind of indoor warmth will cause me to
break out in a heavy sweat from my whole body, but the
one I'm most concious of is my forehead as thats the most
visible. I've broken out in a sweat just walking up two
floors worth of stairs at work when the temperature was
about 23 degrees inside. I find that if I'm out in winter
weather and walk into a warm building I almost instantly
break out in a sweat. I also find general temperatures
above 24 ish degrees to feel uncomfortably warm. For
example two years ago I went to the US and it was
temperatures of 30 + degrees and even just walking down
the street I was in a severe sweat from my forehead.
4) This one I can't attribute as much to thyroid problem is
oily greasy skin. I tend to find that my skin gets really
oily and greasy very quickly. I have combatted this for a
while now with vitamin supplementation and while it
hasn't really allievated my oily skin I find it helps. I
take a daily regime of Vitamin B-5, (pantothenic acid)
with B-50 complex and also some zinc to help my immune
system. That pretty much takes care of any spots that I
used to get as a result of my oily skin and the vitamin
B-5 and B-50 complex do help a certain extent with the
oily skin.
From what I've described does this point to some problem
with my Thyroid or does anyone have any other kind of idea
as to what could be causing these health problems? Would
taking the vitamins and zinc be worsening the sweating or is
there anything I can do to allieviate these problems?
Thanks in advance. Craig
