It's one of those things we all have to live with (the
situation, not the fear). I say all because one of the first
few people to go down with the disease, a youngish woman in
the UK, was a vegetarian. After puzzling over it for ages
they traced the source to contaminated fertilizer on some
vegies she'd eaten that hadn't been adequately cleaned.
(That is all from memory of news events at the time. Don't
have a ref.)

So, people just have to decide what they want to do. For
some, it's a case of "Whatever happens", and that can be a
healthy approach to life too. But if I had young children
I'd definitely avoid beef in all forms, even if I ate
similar meats. Because of the long incubation times (I read
"up to 20 years", somewhere) it's those who are children now
who are most in need of protection, imo.
