************************ Black Americans use DNA to go back
    to their roots -- 15/03/2004

Larry Melton is an American success story but, when
friends asked where his ancestors were from, he could not
    say. And it hurt.

All that changed when Mr Melton sent his DNA to African
Ancestry, a firm founded last year by one of America's
leading black geneticists, Rick Kittles of Howard
University, Washington. From a swab rubbed inside Mr
Melton's cheek, the firm extracted his mitochondrial DNA
(mtDNA), a snippet of genetic code that is passed from
mothers to daughters across the generations.

That was compared with African Ancestry's database of 21,000
genetic lineages, classified into 100 ethnic groups. Mr
Melton's mtDNA was matched. "Now I can say, on my mother's
side, she shares ancestry with people from Ghana, of the
    Akan tribe," he said....

Hey, Bob just said the other day that establishing one's
background through DNA wasn't possible. Perhaps he was
lying? Or, should we just give Bob LeChevalier the benefit
of the doubt and assume he's stupid?

    Perhaps both!

He can say it, but he can't know it for sure; all he has is
statistical probabilities. Furthermore, I don't see any
statement of what village his mom's ancestors came from,
which I believe was one of your claims.

Indeed, all he knows is that one matriarchal line umpteen
generations long might go back to Ghana. The trouble is that
he probably has a few hundred American slave ancestors who
were brought from a variety of places, and probably also
some white ancestors whose ancestors were from a variety of
places. In short, he is a mongrel just like you.

Statistical probabilities that one's race is 90%, or 95%, or
99.9% DAFN, is whole helluva lot more than a "social

you're "social construct" view of race only becomes more
    outragouzly ridiculouz...

No one ever disputed that, idiot. But they can trace his DNA

Look at idiot Bob LeChevalier trying to backtrack and
continue with his lies. Sorry, it isn't working, Bob. Not

The statistical probability is that he had one ancestor that
was from somewhere near Ghana. By the "social construct"
that says that one's race is determined by the one drop
rule, or by skin color, that means he is black. But both the
one drop rule and the skin color rule are social constructs
that ignore the basic truth that "we are all mongrels".

Actually, the database will only support the "construct"
view. Even if all his ancestors were from Ghana, so what? It
is a social construct that says that ones tribal ancestry
    matters in the least.

No. They traced one line back with a high statistical

    I did?

What specifically did I say wasn't possible? I don't think

    commonalty.
