I was pleasantly surprised that the front cover of the Metro
yesterday was outrage at someone who didn't get a prison
sentence for a collision in which 3 people were killed. (He
was charged with DWDCA for driving on the wrong side of the
road, just having finished a phone call, after 4 bottles of
beer (but not over the limit), at 60mph in a 40 zone) So at
least some of the media acknowledges that people are being
killed unnecessarily.

The last time I bought a Telegraph (about a month ago) the
Motoring section(!) had a columnist saying we really ought
to cut down on the school run as that's what's creating the
traffic that we feel we need to protect our kids from by
driving them to school.

At this rate, they'll be creeping into a pro-cyclist
editorial stance by this time next year!

scale - for example, who is creating the traffic which
people complain makes it slower to drive than it would be to
cycle or walk, and what is the obvious solution?

To knock down half the buildings in city centres to make
more roads. This would have a twofold effect - by making
the town centre so [censored] noone would want to
work/live/go there.

Robert Hooke suggested this in 1667. These days it is more
convenient to blame the Government for the fact that Wren

That's been standard (if not overtly acknowledged) public
policy here in the States for at least thirty years.
