Avocet Vertech altitude and temperature goes mad

_Likely, they recalibrate it when replaced at the Avocet
service center. You are not supposed to replace it yourself.
Sending it to the Avocet service center is a pain, but
probably the only way to get it working again.

Could be. Did you reset the unit using the button inside the
case? I don't claim to know that that will fix the problem,
but that is part of the procedure for replacing the battery
as I understand it.

There is a little reset button inside the watch. If a recall
correctly it is a thin metal tab that you push. After the
reset you can adjust the barometer if you know the pressure
where you are at.

tectonic plate movement? no, wait, air temperature should
go down with an elevation increase. i think 'high hell'
is just a saying.

i've used the same(?) VerTech for 10-yrs or so. i'd send
it to Avocet every other battery change for a refresh
(maybe they updated the module over the years). your use
of 'whilst' suggest this may not be convenient but any
number generating device needs to be calibrated on
occasion if you want to trust the numbers.
