  1. How many customers is Mavic losing because of it's poor
website? It's difficult to find info and doesn't seem to
work most of the time. C'mon Mavic, lift your game!

It is moderately crappy (I've seen far worse). My pet peeve
is that all these manufacturers sites don't have decent info
on the products they sell. Would if f'ing kill them to have
the ERD of a rim on their site?

I wanted to know the width of a rim but no they don't have
that either, so I've ordered a Velocity rim instead.

That's nothin' ... this web site will cause brain damage:

    lookin.itlookin.it

For the Selle Royal "Look In" saddles. Mavic is nothing
compared to those clowns. Jesh, alls I wanted to know was
what color the inside ... the "Look In" color ... was for
the blue and white saddles. A picture, that's all I asked
for. Give me some info, not some art students pathetic
attempt at creativity. Hey, you kid who made the Look In
site ... STAY AWAY FROM THE BROWN ACID!!!

If you have the flash plug-in installed, is it possible to
turn off the on-demand function? In other words, can you
decide manually with a site gets to use flash or not?

Yes, Flashblock adds a binding to Shockwave Flash object
tags that replaces them with a button you must click in
order to play the animation. Very handy for keeping your
browsing from being overrun with all the shiny/flashy stuff.

You of course need to be using Firefox or Mozilla to use
    this.

But then, noone should be using IE unless they *enjoy* the
[censored] popups and every ActiveX control in existence trying to
    install spyware.

Perhaps a few emails to the "technical contact" listed for
their domain registration might help. A NetworkSolutions

In Opera, you just hit the 'F12' key, and it pops up a menu
allowing you to enable/disable things like pop-up windows,
images, gif animation, plug-ins, cookies, and also allows
you to change how the browser identifies it's self (good for
sites that say you must use internet explorer).

My current attitude about that is to let 'em suffer. If
they're too stupid to figure this stuff out for themselves,
    they don't deserve our business.

technical contact would be the wrong place .. you'd probably
just get whoever is hosting their DNS which may (or more
likely not) also be whoever is hosting their web content
which may (and most likely not) be whoever is in charge of
    the actual content.

your best bet is probably [email hidden].

Oh sweet Jesus. I went to the Salomon site when I got some
new (to me) skis and gave up before I found anything useful.
I think I even emailed them -- I try to do that whenever a
site that I really wanted to get information from lets me
down. Try to find the address of the marketing department,
    not the webmaster :-)

problem with that is that the email for the marketing
department isn't always easy to find and changes across
    companies.

I don't like to be simplistic but I must note that Mavic is
a French company, and many French companies have not yet
realized that they can (and are expected to !) do more on
the internet than just post a few ads.

The detail that is baffling me on this site is the "dealers
    only" technical pages.

I second this notion. As a webmaster, I am always trying to
fend off the marketing department at my company. They
constantly want me to do Flash, pop-ups, registration forms
with cookies, and everything else annoying known to web-
surfing humanity. And, to make it worse, our audience is
primarily technical, so the web garbage becomes even less
palatable. Send your complaint to the marketing department
(try [email hidden] to start). It will hopefully spare
their webmaster from having to make the web site even more
    full of useless, flashy [censored].

I also agree that the Mavic site is good for little more
than marketing hype. There is little useful technical
information there. But, if you like flashy stuff, I guess
    it's all right.
