I am new to this site and have been spending a lot of time reading various posts but I have not been able to find and threads that talk about big guys riding MTB's. I would love feedback-advice-experiences from other big guys out there that would make my riding more fun/different.
I am about 6'3" and weigh about 290. I purchased several "Wal-Mart Specials" to see if I would even enjoy riding and I hated both of the bikes. A friend told me to suck it up and spend the money and get a decent entry level bike and I ended up buying a Trek 4100. I absolutely love it and have already put several hundred miles on it...according to my computer...
So I have no specific question just wanted to chat and see what everyone out there has to say.
Normal rims, forks, frames rear shocks etc are designed for 150 lb riders and if you are a big guy you will break lots of stuff.
Get good brakes (8 inch hydro discs) and fatter tyres (2.3-2.5s) and don't try and save a few grams here and there cause you will just end up spending heaps of cash in repairs.
Other than that being a big guy is no different to anyone else, just don't expect to keep up with skinny little XC freaks.
