I got some fantastic photos from a cheapo camera at a model
village somewhere north of Amsterdam. A triple rainbow (the
only one I have ever seen) had emerged over a model of
Amsterdam's town hall. The only spoiling factor was the life
size lampposts in the background.

The time I most wished I had a camera was some years ago.
I'm pretty sure it was before Nelson Mandela was released
from prison. Walking from Waterloo Station to teh river
through the South Bank Centre you go past a bust of Nelson
Mandela on a tall pedestal. A caretaker was washing teh bust
with a floor-mop. As I approached he finished with teh mop
and then, to rinse it off, threw teh bucket of water
straight in Nelson's face.

What would have made teh photo, was that as he did so, a pinstripe-
suited city / civil service type walking behind teh
caretaker towards me gave a black power salute.

Of course, even had I had a camera on my person, I wouldn't
have got the photo - it was over in a blink. Would have been
fantastic if I had, though.

I regularly carry my camera with me on journeys to work,
though it seems I'm lugging round a vast amount of
electronics - camera, mobile phone, cassette recorder (for
listening to language tape in spare moments - though not on
the bike), and PDA plus fold up keyboard.

Many of my recent photos on congokid.com were taken on cycle
jaunts round the city with my camera.

I still missed some excellent photo opportunities, though -
the morning I saw a Porsche that had crashed into the front
gates of Buckingham Palace, and the afternoon I saw a
mannequin that had fallen forward through the display window
of Vivienne Westwood's shop in Mayfair and was lying face
down on the pavement in a pool of shattered glass.

PDA's and (video) phones all in a package the size of the UK
flip phones. Looks like some form of worship when you see a
crowd of people stood holding their phones in front at arms
length but they are actually taking photos.

They don't use querty or qwerty keyboards but keypads that
are rather effective at entering the rather complex Japanese
syllabary and characters - to the extent that when they are
not taking pictures with their phones, many are sitting
reading and responding to their e-mails with the benefit of
their always on 3G network.
