Eurosport had switched away from coverage while Marc Streel,
the previous holder of the pink GC leader's jersey was still
out on the course. There was a little graphic when Devolder
was perhaps 10 km from the end of the stage showing time
gaps: Chavanel at about +30 seconds, Rous and the peloton at
+1:05, and Streel at +18:00. Streel finished 24 minutes
down. Ouch.

What an incredible race in almost "Dantesque" circumstances:
wind, rain, cold and what an incredibly selective track.
Didn't know there were climbs that hard in the region of Boulogne-Sur-
Mer. The "sprint" for the second place was an ideal
illustration of how the riders had suffered.

That was Henri Desgrange's tradition. Since he passed on,
the Tour has gotten soft - now they just taco a wheel on
the rider's knee. With today's lightweight equipment, it
barely hurts.

He placed 3rd in some Tour recently, other than that he has not really be heard from this year.

Took 3rd in Murcia early in March... the entire T-Mobile
team has been veeeeeeeery quiet lately.
