The obvious reparte is that maybe Guimard should then not

Guimard not only allowed Fignon to ride the Tour and the
Giro the same year at 23, but even insisted on it to please
the sponsor (Renault). That was a crime.

It was my impression that Guimard ruined more than one set of knees with his theories on high saddle heights and big gears.
