TR: Grabh-bheinn and Blaven, Skye

friend had told me about a horrible short wall to go down.
I kept looking for it, worried. But I never found it and
the route went easily. Lovely scrambling up exposed slabs
in great positions. A fine summit! I got down to the
Putting Green, thinking I was done, but the ascent of
Blaven has a few tricky bits up a chimney and a short
sharp wall almost right away. Popped out of the chimney
onto the main path up Blaven for a easy stroll up. Meet my
friends there who had arrived about 15 minutes earlier. A
fantastic traverse and combination. I was lucky to be
dropped off and met at the other end. For my money, Garb-
bheinn would be overall more interesting from the south,
over the outlying ridge and up. Then return to the col and
if a scrambler traverse Clach Glas to Blaven. Another
superb day on Skye 8-) Rob

I spent some time last spring sitting on Garbh-bheinn
looking in awe at that approach to Blaven. If, like me, you
are too accident-prone to try it an excellent day can be had
by following the ridge east over Belig then north over Ghlas
Beinn Mor (sp?).

Another great trip Rob. How's your island total coming on, I
have still got Skye, Jura and Lewis to do !

A truly awsome place is the corrie beneath Clach Glas and
between the other two, facing west. I descended that way
last year and was very impressed. I found Garbhbheinn a bit
disconcerting, it has mud on the narrow ridges still and is
a bit disconcerting when used to good old Cuillin gabbro. A
great round with An Ruadh Stac

Likewise. It was windy that day to; my wife's hat blew off
into the east coire. Gone for ever!
