is (Sniper?), but if I bid on EBay... I'd use it.

I saw a device at Home Depot that used something that looked
exactly like the SoM bags (had the sealer and the refill
bags, but it wasn't the Original S-O-M).

I'm not crazy about their website. You want the Series 400
2.5 mil bags. They come in a variety of sizes. Each
package was $12.25 last time I purchased (Dec '02). Price
is the same per pack; the quantity varies with the size
(the pint size bags are 75 per pack; the 1-1/2 pint size
is 50 per pack.)

Although they don't have the holes which Seal-A-Meal bags
do, ordinary Ziplock-type plastic bags can be sealed with a
Seal-A-Meal. I use freezer bags, which are thicker and
easier to handle.

Note that my Seal-A-Meal is the type with the bronze-color
heating element, covered with non-stick tape. I've seen Seal-A-
Meal units with a silver-colored heating element that does
not appear to have a non-stick surface. I don't know whether
those would work with ordinary bags.

There is no such thing as sniping on ebay, what there is is
not placing a high enough bid to win. If you max bid is
eventually overtaken then the item cost more than you were
willing to pay. Sniping is a myth.

See, you are thinking logically about it, and ebay as a
place to acquire merchandise. For some people, it's all
about the "winning".

But you are correct. Decide ahead of time what you are
willing to pay to get the item, set your proxy bid to that
level, then you get it at that price or not. People should
be happy about snipers, their last-minute tactics prevent
you from doing something foolish in the heat of the moment.

But in the meantime, you encourage others to drive the price
up. The better strategy is to decide ahead of time what you
are willing to pay, enter it into your sniping software, and
lull the competition into thinking that they are going to
get a bargain.

Brian, the sniping software doesn't care about fair play,
it's there to win. You can set it to scan bids and set it to
bid the bare minimum shown, you can also bid above current
the maximum bid - but htat's problematic.

Not if the other person is smart and bids their TRUE
maximum. When you bid the words to the left of the bid box
say "your maximum bid:"

So if someone comes along at the last minute and bids their
max and it outbids your max then you lose because they were
willing to pay more.

What I find silly is those who come along near the end and
bid once, then again, then again. Duh! If they were willing
to go to that last bid, they should have entered it in the
first place.
