I have a threaded headset on my bicycle. If I remove the stem and measure the INSIDE diameter of the steer tube and find it to be 1 inch exactly, then measure the diameter of the stem that inserts into the tube and find it to also be 1 inch, does that mean the headset and steer tube are 1 1/8 inch? Sorry to sound ignorant, but a bike shop tech told me (without looking at my bike) that my Schwinn Frontier, circa 1996, has a 1-inch tube/headset. Yet I was combing through the sheldonbrown.com website a while ago (excellent site), and there is a table that indicates the measurements I took result in a 1 1/8 inch tube/headset.
Dammit, I'm confused...can someone please clarify this for me?😕

Another way is simply measure the OUTSIDE diameter of the steerer: 1" = 1" HS and steerer, and 11/8" = 11/8" HS and steerer. A no brainer and end of confusion.

I had tried this and the measurement wasn't as clear as the inside diameter measurement, which deals with smooth surfaces versus threaded ones. Thank you for your help.
