Just had a call from Radio York about would I mind chatting to their producer tomorrow about The H Words... The chap has been trying to get through to CTC all afternoon, but while waiting for their engaged tone to come off thought he'd try me as he'd seen something I'd written somewhere about them that seemed to cover the bases. Better do some fact checking and remember that condescending tones don't get Mr. and Mrs. J. Public onto your side...

It might help to have all the facts clearly written out on postcards or similar in front of you so you can easily reference them when needed. It is horrible to be on the spot and have your mind go blank (and makes you sound less convincing).
The other trick is to make your point when they ask questions rather than trying to answer the question. Listen to a skilled politician and you will see how they always get their agenda across.

A good idea. On the radio I also make a note of the names of the other contributors and callers on my piece of paper. This means I can refer to them by name, which sounds a lot better. Which is a good point to make sure before hand that you know who else is going to be appearing and some semblance of the purpose of the interview. Its very different going in to talk positively about the subject than finding yourself confronted by a mother in a sob story of "a helmet would have saved his life". Is the station running a pro-helmet campaign at present for example? Be prepared and ask the programme.

I asked about the format and it seems it'll just be an interview rather than a panel thing, and they appear to have done research and want discussion started rather than the programme's predetermined conclusions presented. Well, it came and went, and I'm still shaking like a leaf (and apparently I have become an "IT Consultant" now, must have a word with HR about my pay!).
The interviewer was basically good, asking sensibly researched leading questions to stimulate debate. I just hope I answered them in such a way as to do more good than harm, but as I have great trouble assessing how I'm doing anytime I'm trying a point over to an audience I'd be grateful of feedback from anyone who heard it (and I won't be offended if punches aren't pulled if you think I buggered it up either).
Whatever, I did my best, and I think I probably deserve a muffin for that...
