Polar HRM IR link and usage with cellphone IR .....

    Maybe someone here can help me with this query ..

    I have a Polar 610 heart rate monitor and use the Polar
    USB IR thingy to download my running data to my PC (where
    it accumulates and goes forth and does whatever ignored
    data does).

    What I would like to do is use the IR thingy to download
    from a Nokia (6220, 6310i and n'gage) cellphone. Is this
    possible? If so, has anyone done it?

    My cellphone service provider has a USB IR port and CD for
    sale, but I do not want to spend money for what could be a
    duplicate. The assistant said that it is just a generic IR
    link and it needs the correct drivers. If so, where can I
    get drivers (without having to buy the whole kit from the
    service provider)? I did spend quite a bit of time looking
    for drivers with google and in www.nokia.com, but could not
    find anything suitable. The handset came with Nokia's PC
    Suite CD, which has been loaded onto the PC but is of little
    use until a link can be established......

    Of course it's "possible", just very expensive. Here's how:

    You just have to hire a team of programmers to write custom
    software for one or both devices. And, you also have to buy
    both companies, to get the proprietary information that the
    programmers need in order to do the programming.

    Clearly, this is not worth it.

    Aish, what a reply. I am an civil engineer, so I realise
    anything is possible if enough money is thrown at it. There
    are also alternatives - one of which is to get a bunch of
    students to do it on a Saturday afternoon.

    I doubt that this is possible, though I may be wrong. The
    USB IR dongle uses Polar specific USB requests over the
    USB driver. I also use the Linux driver for this and
    looking at the code, it looks very non-standard. Perhaps
    ask on the forum on daveb.net.
